Mrs. Jiemjit Boonsom’s Biography
Mrs. Jiemjit Boonsom was born in Lampang in May 15, 1941. Her parents were escaping from war to rural area a Sobprab district (in the present). When Mrs. Jiemjit was young, she studied with private instructor near her house and then continued her study in elementary at Prachavit School. Then, she continued her secondary level at VitchaNaree, Mueng district in Lampang province until finished her high school (Mattayom 6). She, then, studied in pre-university level (Mattayom 7 and 8) at Triem-udom Suksa in Bangkok where is considered to be a very famous school in that time.

Mrs. Jiemjit had entered university level in the faculty of fisheries, Kasetsart University, and then graduated Master Degree in Animal Science at the same university.

After she graduated, she had worked in government service, the Department of Fisheries, until her retirement at her 58 years old in 1999 with the last position of Fishery position in Lampoon province.

During she was working as a government officer, she had done many researches such as Trichogaster pectoralis, Pru soil, and many reservoirs in Thailand. She was in the research on fish breeding team with artificial insemination and success as the first group in the world. This is considered as it is the braking through for the present artificial insemination of Department of Fisheries.

Nevertheless, there is a research which consider as 20 percent of the whole country which can bring out as the concrete one. According to the statistics of Ministry of Science and Technology, the research on a type of anabena, very small, but give the high nutrient fact and cannot be seen by naked eyes. This research has been supported research fund from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations-FAO (of USAID) and from Chulabhorn Research Institute. Mrs. Jiemjit is the one who has given the name of the seaweed that ‘Klieo Thong’ Seaweed because she had selected the specie by herself and distribute this research to the interested people widely. Consequently, there are many further researches later in many institutes.

Once the research finished, Mrs. Jiemjit see that this kind of seaweed is very useful, So, she let her husband, Mr. Somchai Boonsom, try to produce it in small pool in the empty area behide her house, then expand to her aunt’s house, then to other people land. Later, it has become a work and it has turned to business. She looked for the way to produce this seaweed in the more commercial way with their own technology without the expensive technology exporting from other countries until success. This seaweed has become the successful product and popular until the present day which later occur the new industry within country.

Another work that she is very proud besides this seaweed is the chance to join the work in Government House in the time of His Excellency Prem Tinnasulanon was the Prime Minister for 7 years. She was in a consultant team of Excellency Pichai Rattakul which create many omnisciences and that has given her the chance to bring this knowledge to work for country through chief executive officer.

Mrs. Jiemjit have been married with Mr. Somchai Boonsom, pundit from Agricultural Science Faculty in 1968. They have 3 children which are Ms. Ramarin Boonsom, Master degree student from Chianmai University, Mrs. Rama-orn Ittiwattana, graduated from nursing science and Mr. Sahapracha Boonsom, Master in Economic. They have helped their parents and being a main power for family business which more and more expanded. This is because their motto which are "Merit Ahead All Busienesses”

Mrs. Jiemjit has joined the Sonta Club work since 1998 and intends to work for children and women in Thailand especially in Chiangmai as it is the intention of Sonta with the support of the family behide as we have always seen it.
